DirectUpdate is a dynamic DNS Updater. A dynamic DNS is a way to update traditional DNS records without manual editing. A simple example is keeping in sync a domain name with a changing (dynamic) IP address.
DirectUpdate runs transparently in the background as a service. It constantly checks the IP address assigned to the machine. Whever a change of IP address is detected, DirectUpdate engine updates your domain name, so it’s always up to date.
DirectUpdate offers a built-in web administration tool and also remote administration. If your device (laptop, pc, server) is not connected to the internet with a static IP address DirectUpdate provides the means to access it without any hassle.
Secure updates are provided via SSL or MD5. It also supports multiple IP addresses simultaneously through Cable, xDSL or VPN.
Multiple DDNS providers (Dynamic DNS Services) simultaneously are supported. A thorough list can be found on the author’s site here.
Although routers provide embeded client to update your ip, software clients are recommended by the ddns providers. DirectUpdate is also the first ddns updater to receive certification for various iterations of the Windows operating system (Windows 8, Vista, Windows XP).
